An outcome-based dynamic performance management approach to collaborative governance in crime control: insights from Malaysia

The paper analyzes Malaysia’s experience in crime control. It offers insights on how a whole-of-government perspective, underpinned by a dynamic outcome-based performance management system, or DPM, supports governments in bringing about progress in crime reduction. Although not exhaustive of all factors contributing to crime control, the paper argues that DPM can make collaboration in designing and implementing policies for crime control more effective, by enabling policy-makers frame causal links between strategic resources, performance drivers and outcomes. The advent of neoliberalism in the early 1970s marked a new age for ethical practices. Although pragmatism as an approach to ethics pre-dated neoliberalism, the neoliberal approach to political economy ushered in a new kind of pragmatism, owing little to Jeremy Bentham, even less to the American philosophical pragmatists Charles S. A Lesson in Tolerance? Juvenile Justice in Italy

Authoritarian crime control, driven in particular by notions of zero tolerance, appears to be a growing feature of many, if not all, systems of juvenile justice across Europe. Notions of meeting needs and welfare support for marginalised and deprived children seem to have collapsed. This article examines in some detail the case of Italian juvenile justice which appears to have followed a somewhat different path over the past decade.
